Case Study 3
Requirements
The location for this project was a double sink area in a very stylish, modern shower room. As seen in this early photograph, we visited the site whilst the fixtures and units were being installed. This is often the best time to begin the design process as the space was available for us to measure and the concept was developed whilst the room was being completed.
Initial Ideas
After discussing some ideas with the client about various styles and shapes that would potentially work well in the space, an initial design brief was established. As the client's first names both began with an 'S' they wanted to try to incorporate this into the design somehow, albeit subtley. We designed some simple aperture shapes using multiple 'S' curves and identified a decorative style of frame that most appealed to the client.
The Design
From these line drawings a preferred shape was chosen. We then projected the aperture into the photograph of the location to establish an appropriate scale for the mirror. With the proportions identified we could then super-impose the frame's decoration giving an idea of how the final piece might look.
The Final Piece
The final element of the mirror's design to consider was the finish. Drawing inspiration from some of the client's paintings hanging close to the entrance of the shower room and combined with the clean, granite and chrome decor of the room itself, we decided a silver leaf and burnished red clay finish would be most suitable. As you can see, the final piece was a real show-stopper!
